Morales and Baptistao scores, Scoreline 1-1.

Levante played out for a draw against Espanyol as the scoreline after 90 minutes was 1-1 at the Ciutat de Valencia Stadium in a La Liga Santander fixture on Sunday. Morales(55’) scored for the home team while Baptistao(90+1’) stole all the limelight with his late match heroics.

From the first minute of the game, the referee was busy blowing his whistle as both the teams played hard and rough game to commit fouls on either team. Gerard Moreno awarded himself an yellow card on 12th minute itself after a bad foul and conceded the first card of the match.

Espanyol slowly ascended in the game after the card was shown to Gerard Moreno and created some good chances but were denied. On 30th minute, out of the flow of game Levante came close to scoring when a cross from Ivi from an set piece was collected by Robert Pier before the latter’s header from the right side of the box went inches wide of the post.

The first half went goalless as both the teams tried to exploit either’s vulnerability but couldn’t succeed. Scoreline 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.

At 55th minute, Marc Navarro fouled on Erick Cabaco inside the penalty box and the referee Alberola Rojas blew his whistle and pointed his hand for a spot kick. Jose Luis Morales bulged the ball into the bottom right corner from his right footed shot to give home team and inevitable lead of 1-0 in the tie.

Espanyol almost had an equaliser on the 62nd minute as David Lopez left footed shot from the centre of the box missed the top right corner by inches before sailing over the bars out of the ground.

Erick Cabaco was involved in another encounter at 71st minute when an cross from goal scorer Jose Luis Morales was collected by him inside the six yard box but his header was saved at bottom right corner.

Espanyol went all out in the dying minutes of the game. Duarte came close to score but his right footed shot just went wide. At the 91st minute, Leo Baptistao received an pass from Manuel Jurado and fired the ball inside the bottom left corner of the post to give his team an magical equaliser.

 

After that Levante pressed hard to come back into the game and score an another but their work went in vain.

Levante is just a point clear of the relegation team zone with 21 points from 27 matches. Espanyol is now 14th in the league table with 32 points from 27 matches.

Levante would be facing the challenge of Getafe on 10th March. Getafe would be facing Real Sociedad the next day on 11th March.
