FC Goa poured cold water on Jamshedpur FC’s playoffs hopes by thrashing them 3-0 in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) 2017-18 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur on Sunday. Ferran Corominas(29’, 51’) bagged a brace for the Gaurs while his countrymen Manuel Lanzarote(69’) also scored for his team. Both the team’s custodian were sent off in an amazing thriller.
Jamshedpur FC started the game on a higher note as they pressurized the Gaurs and never let them settle in the early stage of the game. Jamshedpur FC played in a formation and kept passing teammates. Jamshedpur FC showed calm and composed football at early moments.
But at the 7th minute, the tongues of the home crowd froze, Subrata Paul was given a direct red card and was sent off the do-or-die game. Subrata Paul marched outside the box to handle the long ball which was crossed to Ferran Corominas. Referee with cleared mind gave a red card to the Indian goalkeeper.
With only 10 men Jamshedpur played further. Deficiency in the number of players caused number of occasions to Goa to go ahead in the crucial encounter. Minutes before half hour mark FC Goa almost had an own goal when the communication between Sanjiban Ghosh and Bikey was not bridged and Corominas exploited this chance to pressurize both of them but couldn’t cause any stir.
FC Goa opened their windows on 29th minute when Hugo Boumous made a way through the defence line and passed it to Seriton Fernandes. Seriton from the right flank made an inch perfect cross inside the box which Corominas had just to tap in to score.
At 40th minute, Souvik Chakraborty played with Izu Azuka on the right. Izu Azuka took a shot but the on target shot was collected by Goa’s custodian Naveen Kumar.
After the end of first half regulation time both the teams players went off with the scoreline at 1-0 and Jamshedpur FC one man down.
Visitors doubled their lead at the 51st minute, Manuel Lanzarote played a long ball to Ferran Corominas. Corominas brought down the ball lovely with his footwork and catapulted an shot to give his team an impeccable lead. Corominas bagged a brace to his name to still be the leading goal scorer f the league.
FC Goa cemented their win for the evening on 69th minute when the Spanish duo again came into action. Mandar Rao Desai fed the ball to Corominas, Corominas went past ahead of Jamshedpur defender before latching the ball to Manuel Lanzarote. Manuel Lanzarote calmly directed the ball which went past Sanjiban Ghosh. Manuel Lanzarote scored his 12th goal of the season with that goal.
On the 75th minute, FC Goa’s custodian Naveen Kumar was also sent off and the reason was the same as of Subrata Paul. Naveen Kumar handled the long ball to Kervens Belfort outside the penalty box. Both the teams were one man down.
Priori scored a consolation goal for the Tata’s but the linesman denied it as it was offside. After that, there was no major action in the game.
Sergio Lobera’s side comfortably sailed into the playoffs. FC Goa finished third in the league table with 30 points from 18 games. Whereas Jamshedpur had a hope to qualify for the playoffs stage but their hopes were shattered. Jamshedpur finished fifth in the league with 26 points from 18 games.
FC Goa would be taking on Chennaiyin FC on 10th March in first leg of Semi-final.
